Sample and Hold / PCB and Front Panel / Eurorack
Sample and hold (S&H) circuit is a crucial component that is employed to generate stepped or staircase-like waveforms. This circuitry essentially "samples" an incoming signal at regular intervals, holding the sampled value until the next sampling occurs. This process creates a series of discrete steps in the output waveform, which can be particularly useful for generating random or pseudo-random signals. In sound synthesis, the sample and hold function is often utilized to introduce controlled randomness into parameters such as pitch, filter cutoff, or amplitude, contributing to the creation of unique and evolving sound textures in electronic music.
- The clock in a Sample and Hold circuit dictates the timing at which the incoming signal is sampled, defining the rate at which the discrete steps are generated in the output waveform.
- Depth potentiometer controls the range of voltage swing of the Sample and Hold output.
- The built-in white noise generator is connected to the input via a switched jack socket, so when nothing is connected to the input, the white noise is internally routed.
- White noise can be externally connected through the buffered white noise output.
- The Sample and Hold (S&H) Out is the point where you can obtain the voltage output of the sampled signal.
- S&H circuit is based on J112 Transistor.
- Front Panel is also made out of PCB material and screen printed by hand.
