Stereo Signal Path & Mono Compatibility

The Riot ST VCF features dedicated left and right audio inputs and outputs. When a mono signal is patched into the left input only, an internal switched jack automatically routes the signal to both channels, allowing mono sources to be processed in stereo without additional patching.

Stereo Space Control

The Stereo Space fader defines the relationship between the cutoff frequencies of the left and right filter channels:

  • Centered position: Both channels share the same cutoff frequency, behaving like a mono filter
  • Fader moved left or right: One channel’s cutoff increases while the other decreases by the same amount

This design creates width, motion, and depth without sacrificing tonal balance.

CV-Controlled Stereo Modulation

The Riot ST VCF provides CV inputs for Frequency, Resonance, and Stereo Space, allowing envelopes, LFOs, and sequencers to introduce dynamic stereo movement.

When a control voltage is patched into the Stereo Space CV input, the fader acts as a bipolar depth control:

  • Center position: Incoming CV has no effect
  • Move right: CV raises the right cutoff while lowering the left
  • Move left: CV raises the left cutoff while lowering the right

This enables responsive, evolving stereo modulation that remains musical and stable.

Sound Character

The filter core delivers a thick, weighty low-end with a resonance that emphasizes musical movement rather than harsh self-oscillation. This makes the Riot ST VCF well suited for basses, pads, drones, and animated stereo textures—especially when modulated.
